Alan Varela, the Brazilian midfielder who joined FC Porto from Atlético Madrid in January 2019, has been linked with a move back to his former club.
According to reports, Varela is set to return to Atlético Madrid for a fee of €5 million. The move would reunite him with former manager Jorge Sampaoli and his old teammates at the club.
Varela's time at FC Porto was not without its ups and downs. He struggled to find regular playing time under Portuguese coach Nuno Espírito Santo, and he made just five appearances in all competitions during the 2019-20 season.
Despite this, Varela impressed during pre-season training and has been linked with a move away from the club. It remains to be seen whether he will make the move back to Atlético Madrid or if he will continue his career elsewhere.
However, it seems that the deal may have fallen through as there have been no official announcements regarding Varela's future yet. Fans of both clubs will be hoping that a solution can be found soon so that they can see their favorite players on the pitch once again.
